Cutting Through the Hype: SPE Aberdeen’s Practical AI Workshop Returns
Following a highly successful inaugural event, SPE Aberdeen in collaboration with the SPE DSEA (Data Science and Engineering Analytics) technical section is excited to announce the return of its one-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence, focused on real-world, practical applications of AI in the energy sector.
Join us as we move beyond the buzzwords and explore how AI is delivering measurable value across the energy sector. From automated report generation and intelligent data analysis to decision support systems and predictive maintenance AI is no longer confined to pilot projects. It's being embedded into daily workflows, transforming the way engineers and organisations work. This workshop will showcase proven AI implementations, drawing on lessons from both success stories and setbacks. We’ll explore how companies ranging from innovative startups to major operators and service providers are integrating AI to improve operational efficiency, reduce risk, and unlock new value.
Equally, we won’t shy away from the hard truths. When AI projects fail to deliver, it's often due to poor data foundations, unclear goals, or unrealistic expectations. Our sessions will provide candid, experience-based insights into what works, what doesn’t, and why.
This workshop will have something for you whether you're:
This workshop aims to discuss proven AI applications that drive measurable improvements in operational decision-making or processes. We'll explore how energy companies are embedding AI into daily operations, moving beyond pilot projects to scaled applications. We'll also discuss how AI tools are being integrated into everyday workflows—automating report generation, streamlining data analysis, and eliminating manual, repetitive tasks that historically consumed valuable engineering time. We will share real world examples, both the good and the bad.
Equally important, we'll address the hard-earned lessons from AI initiatives that missed the mark. Many organisations have discovered that AI without robust data foundations or understanding its limitations, leads to disappointing results and wasted investment.
Speakers will share candid insights on their applications of AI, common misconceptions, implementation challenges, and successful (and unsuccessful) approaches to achieve measurable value from AI.
We’re currently inviting speakers to share their real-world experience. If you’ve deployed AI in the energy sector (successfully or otherwise) and have practical insights on the journey, the pitfalls, or the breakthroughs, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit a brief description of you talk using this link.
