Geothermal Seminar 2022 – Virtual Events. Programme Now Available

Tuesday January 25, 2022 at 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

SPE Aberdeen are pleased to announce its inaugural Geothermal Seminar. This is the ‘Geothermal Decade’ and this seminar will present you with an opportunity to be ahead of the game! This seminar will feature a combination of panel sessions, techbytes and case histories.

The Rhum field was developed in 2005, but one of the three development wells, R3, was never put on production due to various issues during the completion phase. In 2019, Serica commenced planning operations to rectify the well integrity issues and bring the well on production. This presentation will go into detail on how Serica overcame the expected and unexpected challenges.

The SPE Aberdeen Net Zero committee is hosting on behalf of the CCUS Conference 2022, a beginners Guide to Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage. It will enable people to learn some more about the basics from why it is needed through how CO2 can be captured and where it can be stored. An overview of global projects will also be given. As well as for those who just want to learn some more, it is also intended to provide an introduction for people attending the conference to enable them to gain more from the event.

Making Better Upstream Acquisitions. Geoff Salter, SPE Distinguished Lecturer

Wednesday February 16, 2022 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Global upstream transactions are estimated at $150 bn in 2019. Production/cost forecasts and assessment of future opportunities/risks are crucial inputs to the economic evaluation of a potential acquisition. It follows that potential buyers need to conduct technical due diligence on these inputs. In times of volatile oil and gas prices, good technical due diligence can be the difference between a good and a bad deal. This talk highlights how a Petroleum Engineer should approach working in an upstream acquisitions team and illustrates practical methods for conducting technical due diligence. A ‘top down’ process that starts with identifying what drives value is proposed. Several case studies are presented showing how good technical due diligence has had a fundamental impact on acquisition decisions.
