FIELD TRIP
Thursday 30th April from 18.00. Following The Devex Conference, Stonehaven.

Visit the spectacular seismic scale outcrop of the Lowermost Old Red Sandstone on the wavecut platform under the cliffs to the north of Stonehaven. Enjoy spectacular seismic scale views of the LORS silts and sandstones from the cliffs; observe likely syn-sedimentation faulting in vertical bedded sequence; examine the Highland Boundary fault and discuss its significance; and finally return to Stonehaven Harbour to observe the incoming of the huge boulders of the Dunnottar Conglomerate while having a pint and supper at the Marine Hotel.
A great opportunity to consider the tectonic riddle of the Highland Boundary fault and the evolution of Midland Valley of Scotland. Access: Cliff top path can be slippery. Foreshore accessed by steep but safe grassy paths - good sturdy footware - preferably walking boots required. Fore shore outcrop can be slippery but otherwise safe. A good distance can be kept from cliffs. The field trip will be at low tide.
Transport: will be provided from the Chester Hotel to Stonehaven return. The Field Trip will take place from 1800-2000, thereafter dinner will be served at the Marine Hotel with the bus leaving the hotel at approx. 21:30.
