An evening event to launch Seismic 2027!

Did you miss Seismic this year? We had a year off but Seismic 2027 is about to launch!

Join us on Wednesday 30th September for Seismic Lite! 

There will be four presentations along with a case study then Q&A in our familiar Evening Technical Meeting format, which will be rounded up with the Abstract Call launch for Seismic 2027! Following the formal part of the evening there will be a fork buffet and ample opportunity for networking.

Our speakers:

Dr David Cornwell, University of Aberdeen: Imaging Aberdeen with Seismic Noise – Passive Methods for Geothermal Exploration.

Dr David Cornwell is a Senior Lecturer in Geophysics at the University of Aberdeen and an observational geophysicist and seismologist interested in imaging and monitoring the Earth’s subsurface across a range of scales. He holds a BSc in Geophysics from the University of Leicester, an MSc in Exploration Geophysics from the University of Leeds, and a PhD in Seismology from Leicester. Before joining the University of Aberdeen in 2013, he worked at the University of Leeds and the US Geological Survey. His research spans passive and active seismology, ambient seismic noise, geothermal exploration, offshore geophysics and subsurface imaging. He is Co-Lead of the Aberdeen Geothermal Feasibility Pilot, which is investigating the geothermal potential beneath Aberdeen through research drilling, city-scale seismic imaging and fibre-optic monitoring. His wider interests range from earthquake hazards, global tectonics, archaeogeophysics, geophysical education and outreach.

Lindsey Smith, bp: Lessons in Communicating Complex Subsurface Ideas.

A reflection on lessons from EAGE Annual 2026's dedicated communication session, exploring how geoscientists can more effectively communicate complex subsurface ideas through visualisation, storytelling and audience-focused communication.

Biography: Lindsey Smith is a Senior Geophysicist at bp with 20 years of experience across a range of North Sea assets and central technical roles, working in both seismic interpretation and seismic analysis. She currently supports the Northern Endurance Partnership's carbon capture and storage projects, focusing on site characterisation and monitoring planning. Through her work, Lindsey has developed a particular interest in in how geoscientists communicate complex subsurface ideas. She co-organised the EAGE 2026 dedicated session Picture This: From Complexity to Clear Communication and is passionate about the role of visualisation and storytelling in improving understanding, influencing decisions and increasing the impact of technical work.

Natalie Taylor/Oyvind Ruden, Shell: Geohazards Lessons Learned through Well Experiences.

Bio: Natalie Taylor received her M.Sc. Exploration Geophysics from the University of Leeds in 2004 and has more than 20 years of industry experience. Starting out at Fugro Survey Limited she gained expertise in geophysical site survey data acquisition and interpretation, shallow geohazards assessment and vessel management before moving to Shell in 2012, where she further broadened her geohazards assessment capability. Now a Senior Geohazard Specialist within the Shell Geohazard Assessment Team, she covers all aspects of geohazards globally, across well and project lifecycles from Exploration to Abandonment. Outside of work she is a keen cyclist and hill walker and, when not spending time with family, manages a women’s indoor cycle racing team.

Cancellation Policy

Full payment of the event rate you have selected must be paid in advance of the event day or you will be asked for payment on registration. If payment is not received then you will not be granted entry to the conference. We recognise that on occasions delegates will book onto events and subsequently find that they are unable to attend. In these situations we ask that delegates notify us of their need to cancel an event booking as soon as possible.

Our cancellation policy is as follows: Please send cancellation details to the event organiser by email or by telephone. Please inform the event organiser if you wish to send a replacement delegate, including their requirements (e.g. dietary, access etc). Please supply their full contact details so that any advance paperwork can be supplied directly to the replacement. If you notify the organisers of your cancellation up to two weeks prior to the event, we will provide a full refund. If you notify the organisers of your cancellation less than two weeks prior to the event the full cost will be payable and only delegate substitution will be allowed. Where you have booked a place and do not attend without notifying the organisers of your cancellation the full fee will be payable.
