Professor John Underhill, University Director for Energy Transition, University of Aberdeen, will summarise the geological basis for relocating Odysseus' Homeland, Ancient Ithaca, prior to a private screening of The Odyssey at Cineworld.
Undertaken over the past two decades, this fascinating research has culminated in a thesis that Ancient Ithaca was not located on the modern Greek island of Ithaki, but on the western peninsula of Kefalonia, Paliki. Acquisition of geological data combined with literary evidence has combined to (re)locate Odysseus’ homeland thus solving a 3,000-year-old mystery that has perplexed Classical scholars and archaeologists for centuries.
