Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is revolutionising well construction by offering precise pressure control, reducing drilling risks, and enhancing operational efficiency. In the face of complex reservoirs with narrow pressure windows, depleted zones, high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) wells, and unstable formations, traditional drilling methods often struggle to maintain wellbore stability and effective pressure management.

MPD allows for active management of annular pressure, enabling safer and more efficient well construction. Its integration with advanced automated systems and robust hydraulic models further strengthens well control, ensuring safer operations throughout the drilling process. Additionally, MPD helps to preserve reservoir conditions, limit formation damage, and improve long-term production potential.

As the industry pushes into increasingly challenging environments, MPD is becoming a vital tool for achieving safer, more efficient drilling operations while optimizing both well design and execution.

Soma Salavati, MPD Engineer - Supervisor │ Weatherford

Soma Salavati brings a decade of experience in the drilling industry, specialising in both land and offshore operations with a focus on Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD).

She holds a BSc in Petroleum Engineering and an MSc in Well & Drilling Engineering - currently, Soma is advancing her expertise by pursuing a second MSc in Industrial/Engineering Management.

Her extensive technical knowledge, coupled with her academic drive, positions her as a proficient and dynamic professional in the field of drilling & engineering management.
