Dr. Ikechukwu “Iyke" Onyegiri, AFBE-UK
Dr. Ikechukwu “Iyke" Onyegiri is one of our most active and valued members at AFBE. He is a Chartered Principal Pipeline Engineer at TechnipFMC with extensive expertise in Design Engineering, Project Engineering, and Product Development, with a core focus on pipeline design, installation analysis, and fracture mechanics.
Beyond his technical achievements, Iyke is extremely passionate about inclusivity. He joined the AFBE board in 2019 and was appointed Co-Chair of AFBE’s Scottish arm in 2025, reflecting his immense value to our team. As you may know, statistically, while 30% of all UK Domiciled undergraduate qualifiers are from Minority Ethnic Backgrounds, ethnic representation in the engineering sector is less than 12%. Iyke is a key member of our Transition team, which is set up to address this disparity by organising employability workshops and providing aspiring professionals with a safe space for development. Iyke has been central to these efforts, and in 2024 alone, the Transition team held over 25 events, benefitting approximately 750 people. Notably, during SPE Offshore Europe in 2015, Iyke partnered with Baker Hughes to host a Transition Careers event, which featured inspirational talks from senior industry leaders and mock interviews for students. Iyke is also an active member of the AFBE Gala and Awards team, which is a biennial event recognizing talent within ethnic minority communities. Furthermore, he has led efforts to increase the impact of AFBE’s programs by encouraging collaboration with organizations that share similar objectives.
